ASure Director Andy Smith travelled down to Ampleforth College in North Yorkshire at the end of August to meet up with ASure's adopted cycling team Bianchi Dama for their first round of the National Road Race Series.
Having sponsored the team since Oct 2019 this was the first opportunity to meet at a race since the beginning of the Covid 19 pandemic. Unfortunately the teams entire 2020 season had to be cancelled due to Covid restrictions. Many of the teams races in the first half of 2021 have also had to be cancelled, but with some racing now possible it was a great opportunity to catch up with the girls and the team director sportif David Walters.
The race didn't go as Bianchi Dama would have liked, though they did have a strong performance from rider Charlotte Colclough who was unfortunately taken down in a crash coming into the last lap of the circuit having been well placed in the field. A strong push to finish cemented a 20th place for Charlotte. The big positive from the race was that the team had the opportunity to ride together, something that had not been possible for months. Other teams had competed in the OVO Tour Series a couple of weeks earlier and had the opportunity to gel during that time.
The next round of the National Race Race Series takes place in Stamfordham, Northumberland on September 26th @ 9:00 am. We look forward to catching up with the girls again then.
