FIRST CLASS MEDICAL TREATMENT, WHEN AND WHERE YOU WANT IT

The National Health Service (NHS) in the UK today is under increasing and much publicized pressure from an aging population and stretched resources. As NHS hospital waiting lists for specialist appointments, scans and routine operations get longer, most people would prefer to be able to jump to the front of the queue, not join the back of it and have to wait in line. Time off work, being unable to play sports or complete routine everyday tasks can be tough physically, mentally and also financially. That's why having access to medical treatment and specialist advice as soon as possible can be really important.

Health Insurance, also known as Private Medical Insurance (PMI) can give you the confidence and reassurance that, should the need arise, you and your family have quick, convenient access to first class medical services and treatment in a private hospital.

There are many different health insurance options available, designed to cover the cost of private medical treatment for 'acute medical conditions' that have started after beginning your cover. Options available to you in addition to a 'core' cover may include;

  • Outpatients Treatment (Attending hospital for a consultation, treatment, scans or tests whilst not being admitted as a day patient or inpatient)
  • A choice of hospital lists eg. Local, Nationwide, Nationwide + Central London.
  • Therapies
  • Mental Health Treatment
  • Cancer Treatment
  • Dental and Optical Treatment
  • International Medical Treatment + Travel Insurance

ASure's Health Insurance specialists will tailor your cover to suit your individual / family needs and budget.

HOW DOES HEALTH INSURANCE WORK?

1. VISIT YOUR GP

Your GP refers you for investigations or treatment*.

2. GP REFERRAL

This usually includes initial specialist consultations and diagnostic tests (Outpatient Treatment). Your specialist may then need to refer you to hospital for more investigations or treatment.

3. HOSPITAL

This may be a private hospital or private facilities within an NHS hospital (Inpatient or day-patient treatment). After leaving hospital you will usually have a follow-up visit to your specialist.

4. FOLLOW-UP VISIT

Specialist consultation and a review of your treatment (Outpatient treatment).

*You would call your insurance company to check that you are covered for the specialist and hospital treatment recommended by your GP, and to discuss your options for accessing care. It is important to stay in touch with your insurer at each stage of your treatment.

The above outline of how Health Insurance works is provided by The Association of British Insurers (ABI) 'Are you buying private medical insurance' (2017).
